LATE LOCALS.
The fine scenic film “A Tour through Westland” is to he shown at the Crystal Palace Theatre, Cathedral Square, Christchurch, for two weeks commencing the sth. January. This, arrangement hv the Westland Chamber °f Commerce should be an excellent advertisement for tho Westland District, and should result in a large influx of exvisitors during January and February holiday making. It is hoped to have a farewell screening of the film at Hokitika when’additional screen subjects of the district will be displayed also.
A»littledcnawn point was raised in the Magistrate’s Court, Christchurch, before Mr S. ®. McCarthy, S.M., by Mr 0. S. Thomas, who was appearing for the defendant in the case Flora Falkenbach v. Flora M. Wilson, in which the plaintiff} sought to obtain possession of a tenement occupied by the defendant and her husband. Mr Thomas claimed exemption in that the defendant was the wife of a discharged soldier, her husband having been under orders to proceed to camp and having received his first day’s pay of 5s as a member of the Expeditionary Force, when the armistice intervened and he was discharged by special Act of Parliament. Mr McDougall, for the plaintiff, said that as defendant’? had not actually been in camp it was not generally known that he was a discharged soldier. As this appeared to be the cas®, however, the action would not be proceeded with. The case was accordingly withdrawn.
