COMMERCIAL NEWS

; ADDINGTON STOCK MARKET. DROP IN PRICES (By Telegraph.—-Special to Guardian.) I CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Messrs Matson and Co. report as fol. lows regarding their stock sale yesterday : Store sheep.—There was a large yarding of all classes of store sheep. The tone of the market was decidedly easier all round. A large number of backward 2-tooths were offering and were very difficult to sell. We can quote an all round drop of Is 6d to 3s. The weather conditions are very unfavourable and the market iq likely to recede further.

Fat sheep.—There was a very heavy yarding, the sale not finishing till after dark. There were two many for butcher’s requirements, consequently prices dropped decidedly, anything from. 3s to 8s per head, and. towards the end all sales were made with difficulty. Best wethers sold to 44s 6d prime 34s 6d'to 38s 10 d; medium and lighter 16s 6d to 335; ewes sold in same pariety also. There was very heavy yarding of fat lambs which were much easier. Fat Cattle.—There was exceptionally a heavy yarding and all classes were decidedly easier, especially for inferior quality. The sale was continued till late in the afternoon. One exceptionally fine steer made £B9 ss, but otherwise all sorts were considerably easier, and in face of the continued dry weather and the numbers coming forward, are likely remain so. Store cattle.—Another heavy yarding made up very considerably of dealers cattle. All were trying to quit and the demand was decidedly apathetic and very dull. The state of the weather is still very dry and those holding cattle are anxious to realise, but cannot get out at present prices. However, what appears to be a poor sale to-day might prove a good sale in a month’s time.
