HOKITIKA STATE SCHOOL.
A SUCCESSFUL BREAK-UP
Yesterday afternoon there was a very large attendance of parents and others at the District High School on the occasion of the renewal of the ceremony of breaking up for the holidays. The interest shown by the adults was well rewarded by the opportunity of viewing the school work for the year. This display was of a special interest to one and all and was very gratifying to all interested in the welfare of the scholars. The display reflected every credit on the pupils and teaching staff and was the subject of much commendation. There was a, short formal ceremony before the gathering dispersed the assembled scholars, teachers and visitors being addressed by the Rector, (Mr J. Brunton), the County. Chairman, (Mr T, W. Bruce), and Mr S. J. Preston, (member of the Committee). Apologies for absence were received from Messrs Berry, Mayor), and Aitken, (Chairman of Committee). The addresses were on popular lines and were heartily received and atj the conclusion very hearty cheers were given, the assemblage then singing the National Anthem.
The school was then dismissed for the Christmas vacation.
