In a- note to United States, in reference to Consul Jenkins, who was ransomed from bandits, the Government says there is no legal foundation or principle of international law#, in the United States demand for the release of Jenkins.
MINERS REJECTION. NEW YORK, November 26. Miners indignantly rejected the Government offer of a settlement of four- • teen per cent increase. They say it is insulting and that they will go back home and fight. __
JAPS AT LABOUR CONFERENCE. (Received this day, at 9.30 a.m.) WASHINGTON, Nov. 27. . , The Japanese Labour representatives at the International Conference failing to secure an eight-hour day in • Oriental countries, have left for home. With one exception, the Conference adopted recommendations that recruiting of labour in one country with a view to employment in another, be not permitted, except by mutual agreement of the countries concerned; also for consultation between employers and workers, of the industries affected in each country concerned. Masumoto, the Japanese Labour representative, said the Japanese Government remained still an autocracy and bitter enemy to social justice.
