FIRE AT TOTARA LAGOON
Manera’s house on the Totara Lagoon, below Ruabapu, a substantial building was burnt to the ground on Sunday morning at- 1.30 o’clock. There were four occupants in the house at the time. They had retired at 10.30. p.m. and left a fire in an open fireplace. They only escaped in their night attire. Miss Manera had a narrow escape, her hair being scorched. Nothing was saved. Insurance on house, £l5O and furniture £IOO in the Norwich Union. Th e owners estimate the loss at £250 above the insurance.
