MAJOR FOUND SHOT,

CHRISTCHURCH, November 21

A sad fatality- occurred at Cheviot to-day, resulting in the death of Major J. K. MacDonald, late of the Royal Flying Corps, son of Mr R. M, MacDonald of Christchurch. Deceased went out with his gun about 7 a.m. to shoot rabbits. A shot was heard shortly afterwards and the deceased not returning for breakfast, a search was made and lie was found dead beside a fence. Further particulars as to Major MacDonald’s death show that his gun was m the other side of the .fence, and had exploded. Deceased had a gunshot '■mind in the right side under the breast. From the wound and the position of the body, it is surmised that MacDonald placed the gun over the fence preparatory to getting over himself and in doing so jolted the gun, which went off and knocked him backwards.
