FATALITY AT WESTPORT,

WESTPORT, This Day,

Patrick Walsh, and old resident, was killed on the Cape Foulwind railway this morning.

COMMITTED FOR TRIAL,

* DUNEDIN, This Day. In' the Police Court, jas Reynolds Haiyne (Chemist), Elizabeth Simpson Inglis and Norman Neyon were charged that on or about th 15tli September, they did illegally use an instrument with intent to procure a miscarriage. Evidence was given for the Crown by ten witnesses, after which the accused reserved their defence and were committed for trial.

HON. J. B. HINE HONOURED STRATFORD, October 14.

A non-political conversazione was held here last night to show appreciation of the elevation to Cabinet rank of Major J. 18. Hine. Rlepresentatives from public bodies in all parts of Taranaki wpre present, Many complimentary references were made to the member for Stratford’s work.

He and Mr J. G. Coates had been called to the Cabinet because they were soldiers apart from other qualifications. Immigration was needed to provide labour to carry out the big schemes proposed. The immigrants when the public works were finished would make good settlers.
