A National campaign, in support of I the League of Nations, was inaugurat ed at ameeting at the Mansion House, at which Hon. A. Asquith was the principal speaker. A letter was read | from thei King, emphasising that a strong enduring League of Nations was essential, in order to secure a lasting peace, and commending the cause to all citizens of the Empire, so that with the help of all other mjo of goodwill, buttresses and sure defence of the peace, to the glory of God and lasting fame of our age and country, may be established.”

J The Premier, (Hon. Lloyd George-, I wrote appealing to his fellow eountryI men to participate in the great cruiade j in support of international order and I goodwill. Mr Asquith moved a resolution approving of the League, and endorsing the proposal that 11th November he celebrated throughout the country as League of Nations Day. He empn i§ised the point that the success of the great experiment rested, not so much with the Governments, as with the peoples of the world. There were a multitude of disquietening factors in the international atmosphere and the outspoken, resolute support of the peoples was beginning to carry the League through its present difficulties.
