RAILWAYMENS’ BONUS. CHRISTCHURCH September 29.

At a meeting of th e Superannuated Railwaymens 'Association also attended by the Superannuated Members of the Police Force, the following resolutions were arrived at:

“That this meeting is strongly in favour of the amalgamation of the different. Superannuation Funds, seeing that the Government will insist on tile including of all superannuated members and widows and children in the claims made for a war bonus.”

“That this meeting regrets the Government could not see its way to grant our claims, seeing that the wliole house sympathises with the Associations’ requejst.. As the Prime Minister lias promised’ to bring our claims before the Cabinet, we strongly urge Cabinet to give favourable consideration to our request for a war bonus of 3/- a day at the rate of l-60tli for each year of service, and that any increase to members should also be granted to the widows and children of deceased nembers.”

“That this meeting regrets a Minister considers a mandate should be required from the people to grant the paltry sum required to meet th e demands of superannuated members seeing that so much has been done without a mandate from the people by the Government.” Referring to a statement made in the House that £200,000 would be required if a war bonus were granted to superannuated railwaymen, a speaker stated that £20,000 would be sufficient.
