OBITUARY. SYDNEY, gept. 29. Obituary—Hon. Henry Hartsongo Perry. TEACHERS’ UNION. (Received This Day at 10.35. a.m.) SYDNEY September 30. A conference of school teachers decided to apply for registration under the Trades Union Act. MELBOURNE PROTEST. MELBOURNE, This Day. A meeting of merchants protested at the lack of shipping between Melbourne and Netf Zealand and decided to cooperate with the Chamber of Commerce in order to secure redres-s. It was stated twenty thousand tons of cargo were at Melbourne awaiting shipment.
PROFITEERING. MELBOURNE, This Day. After the conference, Mr Hughes said the State Premiers had agreed to surrender certain powers to the Commonwealth, to enable Mr Hughes to deal with profiteering.
WHEAT POOL. (Received This Day at 10.35. a.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day.
The Farmers Conference carried a motiou that the price of wheat sold within the Commonwealth should be not less than the jeixport f.o.b. price; they also favoured a continuation of the wheat pool and decided to formulate a scheme whereby the system should gradually resolve itself into a growers handling and selling association.
