,'PKU PRESS ASSOCIATION. — Cnp-vRIGHr. 1 MAORI CHILD INJURED. WHAKATANE, Sept. 12. A Maori child replenishing a fire on the Rangitaiki swamp where workmen were engaged, accidentally gathered up -same detonators with an armful of wood. The explosion shattered her hand which had to be amputated at the hospital.
PRISONERS SENTENCED. DUNEDIN, September 15. At the Supreme , Court to-day the following prisoners were sentenced: Walter Violin Anccll Jarvis theft of a postal packet, was admitted to probation for three years, prisoner to pay the costs of the prosecution; James Parker, on five charges of theft, toreformative detention for a period not exceeding five years; Alexander Ogg, breaking, entering and theft, to six months’ hard labour; Hugh Goodlet, breach of probation conditions, to reformative detention for a period not exceeding three years.
A £I,OOO DONATION. DUNEDIN, Sept. 12. Miss Christina Clark has donated on behalf of her late brother, Daniel Clarke, £IOOO to the cost of five rooms in the Ross Home for aged people. AN OLD LADY’S DEATH. HAW ERA, September 12.
Mary Ann Crolnker, aged seventy, wife of James Crocker, a retired farmer, has been reported missing from the borne at Normanby. A search made revealed the body of the old lady in alake near the residence of Mr Crocker, at present an inmate of a private hospital at Hawera.
A VALUELESS CHEQUE. DUNEDIN, This Day. Raymond Alfred Saunders, better known as “‘Professor’’ Barraden, was charged in the Police Court this morning, that with intent to defraud, he obtained £6 from an hotel-keeper at Christchurch by means of. a valueless cheque, Accused, who pleaded not guilty, was remanded to Christchurch, bail being allowed.
