The cablegram containing the official notification that for the next three months, space for 4,125,000 freight'careases would be available for Australia, was brought under the notice of the Prime Minister to-day, who said he had not completed figures for three months. The latest official statement showed there were 12 ships, with a capacity for 125,800 cnreuses, now in New Zealand and 32 were to arrive during August and September, with a capacity of 1,196,000 carcases. So far there were seven ships, with a capacity of 88,.500 carcases down for October. This made a total of 4,143,500 carcases to the end of October, a little more than two months. Mr Massov expressed the opinion that that the position would not cause anxiety if a reduction of the accumulation of meat was maintained. BANK APPOINTMENT. WELLINGTON, This Day.
