SEAMEN’S STRIKE ENDS. SYDNEY,, Aug. 25. The Seamen have decided to man the ships immediately.
SEAMEN’S STRIKE ENDS. MEN MAN THE SHIPS. SYDNEY, August 25. The seamen have lost no time in carrying out their resolution to man the ships immediately on the basis of the Government’s latest offer, which concedes a round-the-tnble conference.
The men to-day proceeded bodily to the wharves. The shipping companies were prepared and the ships took on their crews without delay. The Moeraki is expected to sail for New Zealand to-morrow.
The Niagara, sails on Thursday and the Manuka a week later.
SPLENDID RAINS, j SYDNEY, Aug. 25. ' The whole State of New South Wales is benefiting by the splendid rains, which came to-day, just at the psychological moment to save the crops. CREW FOR INGA. (Received this day at 11.25 a.m.) , SYDNEY, This Day. The Seamen’s Union has arranged to despatch a crow by the Moeraki to man the Inga, which is held up at Wanganui.
LABOUR POLICY SPEECH
SYDNEY, This Day
Mr John Storey delivered a policy speech at Mudgee. He stated that the labour objective was the same to-day as when Mr Holman was leader. Mr Storey proposes to extend educational facilities to rural districts, and reform the university, by providing for democrat control and free higher education. He said that health activities should be nationalised and a Ministry of Motherhood be established. He also proposed to nationalise the mines, and where neces-sary-in the public interest, the present monopolies of coastal steamship and ferry services and banks . j
SALE OF SHIPS. SYDNEY, This Day. Five Commonwealth wooden ships have been sold to American buyers.
