KIWIS V. RIVALS
On Cass Square on Saturday afternoon neither side put up a full fifteen, the ground was wet and sloppy and the exhibition a poor one. The game' resulted in a win for the Kiwi team by 1(5 points, (4 tries, 3 scored by Hess, of which he converted two and, Haile 1), to 9 points, (3 tries by Hoenan), -Mr Rowley was referee.
At Greymouth on Saturday Stars continued their unbeaten record defeating United by S to nil.
WEST COAST v. INANGAIIUA. The team to represent the West Coast in the trial match against Inangaliua on Victoria Park on Saturday has been chosen. The game will be followed by the final selection of the team to play agaiust Buller for the Seddou Shield. The team are:— , Full back: Baxter. Three-quarters: J. Steele, A. W. Brown, W. Afellor. LEAGUE TEAM. The following is the team chosen to represent the West Coast Rugby League against New South Wales on the 27th of this month at Grcymoutli:— Full back : Todd, (Blackball). Three-quarters: Hunter (Runanga), and O’Callaghan (Kohinoor).

BULLER v. NELSON. WESTPORT, Aug. 16
The first match for the Seddon Shield since pre-war days took place at Westport to-day when Nelson and Buller Rugby Unions’ representative teams met.
The weather was fine but the ground was wet. It was not favourable to the best of football. Yet the game was a very strenuous one despite tile ground being greasy from the heavy overnight rain.
Buller managed to retain the Snieid by making a draw of the game. The result was three all, each side scoring a try. For Buller P. Ryan was tho trv-getter and for Nelson Bennett scored a try.
AUCKLAND BEATS THAMES. AUCKLAND, Aug. 17
The Auckland Rughv representatives defeated Thames by *2O points to 11. The result was in doubt right up to the closing stages and the visiting team played a fine game. At half time the score was Auckland 11, Thames S.

Tlie New Zealand Rugby team defeated a Johannesburg miners’ team bv 21 to 3.
