STATUTORY MEETING
A Statutory Meeting of the Board wa held on Saturday 26th July at 7 p.m. The absence of the Chairman was apologised for. Present —Messrs Nightingale, Breeze, and Mclntosh. Mr Nightingale was voted to the chair. The Chairman moved that the Balance sheet of the Board for the year ending December 31st, 1918, as certified to by the Controller and Auditor-General bo jnow finally adopted and also that on pursuance of sub-section 3 of section 5‘2 of the Harbour Amendment of 1910 the necessary | notice be given. Mr Breeze seconded.1 Carried. I Mr Breeze also moved that the arrangement made last year for publication of the Balance Sheet, be again adopted. Air Mclntosh seconded.—Carried. The statutory meeting then terminated.
ORDINARY AiEETING
The same members being present, the routine business having been transacted the following correspondence was dealt with:
From the Valuation Department several letters in reference to amendment lists to Valuation Bolls and also that District Valuer had been instructed fo visit Westland to inquire into recent local transactions. —Received, and referred to Chairman and Clerk. From Hon. T. M. Wilford, Minister of Marine stating it had not been decided yet whether a Bill is to be introduced in Parliament which would include Westland in the Greymoutli Harbour Rating area.—Received. From Son’s Michel and Grimmond stating they would use every endeavour in the Legislative Council to prevent Westland being included in the Greymouth Rating Area.—Received and resolved to apply to Air T. E. Y. Seddon ALP. for his views on the matter. From Hon. G. W. Russell, a large number of communications re Peace celebrations. —Receive. From Marine Department and Har-' hours’ Association a quantity of corres- ] pondenco re several technical matters. Received.
From Advances to Settlers Department re claims made upon them for rates owing by persons whose properties are "mortgaged ’to Department.—Received and referred to Rate Collector. From Audit Inspector drawing attention to the necessity of strictly imposing section 28 of the Rating Amendment Act 1910, which makes it compulsory to collect the 10% interest on all rates unpaid after 31st March in every year. —Received to be attended to.
The Harbour Ataster reported that there is a good wide channel running straight to sea with a depth of 14 feet at neap tides and 16 feet at Spring tides, also that the pile-driving engine bad been transferred from the Westland Gold Prospectinf syndicate to Air D. B. Jellie of Arahura. —Received • Receipts since last meeting £ll2/5/3. Payments since last meeting £64/14/3 Credit Balance in Bank £7B/10/9. Accounts amounting to £377 were passed for payment and instructions issued to forthwith issue a number of summonses against defaulting ratepayor*. Hie Board then adjourned.
