LATE LOCALS.
At a meeting of the Fire Brigade last evening it was resolved to earnestly request the public not to throw crackers and other inflammable material while the Brigade and tableaux are passing in the procession on Peace night. The warning is "necessary on account of tho inflammablo material from which the tableaux dresses are made.
At a meeting of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce on Monday a letter was read from the Greymouth Chamber pointing out the necessity for a more regular service between Lyttelton and Greymouth. It was decidedto reply that the matter had been referred to the Union Steam Ship Company, and it was found impossible to arrange for a more regular service in view of the difficulty of regular supplies of cargo, and also the difficulty of the bar harbour. It was decided to ask the Greymouth Chamber of Shipping would be facilitated by the provision of storage accommodation for coal, thus releasing trucks,
At a meeting of the Hokitika Fire Brigade last evening, Foreman R. Ross presented the Brigade with a very interesting framed picture showing the great fire in Revolt St., in 1869. In presenting tho picture Air Ross stated that from an historic point of view, it Would, no doubt, he of great value to the Brigade, The Superintendent, (Mr Braddon), in accepting the present on behalf of the Brigade expressed the great pleasure it gave them, and assured the Foreman that it would be highly treasured and he of still greater interest in the days to come.
