(SOUTH WESTLAND SALES.

Tlio iuumal stock sales of surplus siieep ami caittle from the southernmost parts of South Westland were held ..unng the last week, the Okarito Porks sale being held on tile 12th and Watari,a un the following day. There was a heavy yarding at both these places a noticeable increase being in the uum;er of sheep offered. Compared with previous years the quality was not up to the usual standard the only really nnished lines being two pens of fat aethers sold by Messrs 0. W. Moss and Co., lor -Messrs Condon Bros., and which realised the very good price of 32/9. The ewes offered were a failaverage class but prices showed a decline. The most noticeable drop was in lambs which ranged from 15/- to 18/-. the latter was obtained for a, line of woolly liomneys on account of Norman Friend.

In the cattle class there were several very fine lines offered, in particular those of Messrs Jno. and Edward Cron of the liaast and Mr A. Eggeling of Okuru. whose Ilerefords were keenly competed for and prices lor same were little below last year notwithstanding the fall ia stores. Competition was animated throughout the sale, and towards the end prices were distinctly firm. Messrs W. Jeffries and Co. sold the following lines: Sheep.—On account of Mr N. IT lend 50 two tooth ewes 23/0; 80 mixed age owes at 20/6; 98 woolly lambs at 18/-; 55 store' wethers .at 20/-; For Messrs A. and T. -Mcßride,9l ewes at 25/9; 24 ewes at, 26/3; 60 lambs at 16/-; 25 ewes at 21/-. For Messrs Condon Bros, 50 aged ewes at 16/-; For -Mr W. Smith 02 wethers at 25/-; 80 lambs at 15/-; 50 ewes at 23/6. For Air Jas. Nolan 35 wethers 26/-; 24 lambs at 15/-. Cattle. —For Messrs Condon Bros 4 heifers at £7 17/6, 4 do. at £B/10-; 1 < do at £9 17/0. For Mr A. Eggeling, 9 steers at £lO/12/6; 17 heifers a.fc £95/-; 3 do at £lO/17/6; For Mr T. Nolan I stag at £9/10/- and 8 heifers at £9 TO/-; For Mr E. Cron, 2 bullocks at £l7; 16 steers at £l3/5/-; 14 do at £l2; 12 do at £10; 9 do at £9/7/6; 13 heifers at £9/5/-; 8 heifers at £B.; 8 dq at £7 . For Messrs A. and T. Mcßride 6 cows a| £10; 8 heifers at £5/10/-; 7 steers at £l2/5/-. For Messrs Walsh Bros. 1 cow at £8; 11 heifers at £B/2/6; For Mr T. Butler 1 bullock at £ISTJS/-; 3 cows at £ll. Tdo at £B. The grazing rights of Private J. Donnelley’s farm of 180 acres at the Waiinngi for 12 months was keenly competed lor and realised £134.

Messrs Cl. W. Moss sold on account Messrs Condon Bros, 124 fat wclhers at 32/9. wataroa stock yards. M. Houston and Co report as follows : We lujd a, sale of stock at the above yards on Thursday 13th March; there

was a large attendance of buyers and competition was good throughout, although prices for cattle wero up to £3 per head below those ruling at these yards at last sale.

Sheep sold well at ruling prices,

AVe sold on account of Mr R. Haste 60 fat sheep at 25/-; on account of Messrs Condon Bros, 45 Ewes at 26/3; 35 at 25/-. On account of Mr Jas Mcbride, 60 2-tooth wethers at 27/-; 20 2-tooth ewes at 27/-; 20 sound mouth ewes at 18/-. On account of Messrs Ritchie Bros 18 2-yr. steers at £8 ; 1 at £5/5/-.
