AMERICANS AND MR. WILSON.
(Received this day at 1.5 p.m.) WASHINGTON, February 27. The Democratic leaders told Mr Wilson that they are bent on an extraordinary session of Congress f» debate the League of Nations, Mr Wilson reiterated his intention to refuse such a session. Mr Wilson admitted the clause referring to the country's geographic position, entitling it. to extra armament allied to Britain, whose Navy was not likely to be reduced and France who required to. safeguard her land frontiers and reference to the question of Japan having a base in Mexico. Mr Wilson replied that the League of Nations would doubtless prohibit, if not, United States must act to secure her own self-pre-servation.
A CONFERENCE. '(Received This Dav at 12.25 p.m.) WASHINGTON, February 26. President Wilson had a private 'Conference with members of the Senate. He does not wish an announcement to Congress at present, on the scheme of the League of Nations and objects to 'Congressional Committee proceeding to Paris. He does not object to a certain amendment designed to prevent the upsetting of Monroeism, though bo feared it was impossible to device such, without impairing the League’s Powers.
