The French Government, in an official reply to Herr Erzberger’s statement at Weimar ,states he is convicted of mis-statements respecting his conference with Marshals Focli and Treves. It declares lie r Erzbergcr concealed an important passage front the text he handed Foch; and also interpolated a \,uew sentence, and falsely asserted ■ that Marshal Fooh gave him an assurance that peace preliminaries would be shortly opened.

LIMIT OF GERMAN ARMY. LODNON, Feb. 24. The “Daily Express” correspondent states: The peace terms will limit the German Army in future to " v three hundred thousand men and fifteen thousand officers.

The pre-war German 'Army organi-

sation, including the General Staff, will be abolished. Military science must not be taught. . Arms and ammunition will be prohibited beyond a fixed maximum. Munition factories and depots will be limited in number and restricted to known localities. The officers, and probably the men, must be professionls, serving for long periods.

GERMAN PEACE NEGOTIATORS. AMSTERDAM, Feb. 23. ■Count Bernstorff has been appointed to prepare and organise peace negotiations, and act as intermediary between the delegates and the German Government.
