< - OBJECTION TO ITS USE AS A QUARANTINE STATION. At a special meeting of the Grey town Borough Council last Thursday the Mayor (Mr D. P. Loasby) reported with regard to the. action if the Defence authorities iti forwarding V.D. patients to the Featherston Camp, that he had consulted with the Mayor of Featherston (Mr J. W. Card), and in conjunction with the latter had interviewed the. P.M.O. in charge at Featherston, and lie and Mr Card had forwarded the following telegram to the Minister of Defence: —“We respectfully urge you to reconsider decision to bring venereal cases to Featherston Camp, situated as it is in the midst of settled districts and close to township. Public in district much concerned, and we think it inimical to public welfare to continue.” The Mayor also stated that the P.M.O. informed him that there, were only 05 cases, and that as far as he knew was the total number in New Zealand; that 25 were to be discharged at once as cured, and that of the remaining ten only three were suffering from syphilis, and tiic oilier seven would be shortly discarged as cured; that the patients were all under strict guard, and had to wear the hospital uniform of a distinctive blue colour.
After hearing the Mayor's report the meeting adjourned.
