(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.—COPYRIGHT.] WESTPORT DREDGE ASHORE. “EILEEN WARD,” ON NORTH BEACH. WEST/PORT December 18. The Westport Harbour Board’s suction dredger “Eileeu Ward,” went ashore on tho North Beach, close to the Eastern Breakwater at 4.30. p.m., to-day. The tug “Mana,” and the suction dredger “Rujay Seddon” have gone' to her assistance, and will made a big effort to tow off the stranded vessel. The beach is sandy and it is not expected that any damage will be done. The weather conditions are favourable for re-flotation. INCREASE IN TEACHER'S PAY. WELLINGTON December 18. A clause in the Appropriation Act provides for increased salaries to school teachers aggregating £IIB,OOO. Tlie Minister of Education states that the new regulations have been approved by Cabinet ancl have been gazetted this weok and will operate on Ist January and will provide increases averaging £2O to each teacher varying from £lO to £3O; also for increasing the staffs of many of the larger schools. First year probationers used to receive £3O per annum and will now received £55.

WELLINGTON, This Day. Mr. Holland M.P. challenges S ir James (Allen's statement re Lieut Crampton. Mr Hollond says—“lf I want to make a further charge Quarter-Master Sergeant Porter, Second-in-Command at Wanganui has been forced out, by bis opposition to the methods of Crampton at Wanganui. The Labour Party is determined that Crampton shall be removed from the position in which he would bo ablo to repeat the acts lie committed at Wanganui. I have a letter in my possession which indicates that the cruel ties were being perpetrated against certain men in the first week of the month.
