VANCOUVER, Dec. 6

A big quake has occurred along the Pacific coast. It happened early to-day and shook this city heavily. It was sufficiently severe to shake people out of their beds along the west coast of Vancouver Islands. The Lstevan lighthouse was damaged there. The seismographs record furthoj sharp quakes, from the direction oi Mexico.

TREMENDOUS INTENSITY

WASHINGTON, Dec. 7

There lias been an earthquake of tremendous intensity recorded on the United States seismographs.

The disturbance originated apparently about 2500 miles south of Washington.

Tlio whole of North America was shaken by the earthquake.

QUA’KE DAMAGES

(Received This Day at 8.30 a.m.) SANTIAGO December 8

The latest reports of the earthquake state four hundred buildings at Capiaco the capital of Atacama ~, province. Three tidal waves destroyed a large portion of Port laltal, northwest of Copiapo. There were several deaths and many were injured.
