GREYMOUTH, This Day,
The position regarding the epidemic continues to improve. There were no fresh eases reported, and no deaths last night or to-day. There are a few dangerous cases in the hospital. The others are making good progress. The want of oranges and lemons are badly felt.
STEADY IMPROVEMENT,
CHRISTCHURCH. This Day
Roports show a steady improvement in the influenza position. Admissions to the hospitals yesterday were 16, ana deaths 8.
The District Health Officer has recognised the improvement, and is cancelling the regulation requiring shops, offices and factories to close, at three o’clock.
IN' OTAGO
DUNEDIN, This Day
Notifications to-day in Otago and Southland were 66 compared with forty yesterday. The number of patients in the public hospital is 167 against 214 yesterday. About 80 patients are in the auxiliary public hospital. The death rate shows a decrease.
10 DEATHS AT AUCKLAND
AUCKLAND, This Day
Thcro were 10 -deaths from influenza at the hospital yesterday. The large figure is explained by the fact that all the new serious eases in the outlying districts are being sent to the general hospital.
' AT PAHIATUA
PAHIATUA, This Day
The epidemic shows signs of abatement. There were four deaths in the last forty-oight hours with 23 eases in the emergency hospital. In the country there is still a great dearth of milkers, hut the organisation is gradually getting the upper hand. The relief fund is now £330.
'EPIDEMIC' WANING
HAWERA This Day
The epidemic here appears to be definitely waning, and though there a»« still some bad cases, a marked improvement is shown, and the new cases aie steadily decreasing. The Maoris suffered heavily, but splendid results have been achieved recently by those _ combating tlio epidemic. The town was to have reopened for business to-day, but on the doctor’s advice no resumption will be made before Monday next. Farmers must have sufforod considerable financial loss, but the factories leport their staffs' are returning and ilia hoped the end of tlio week will find things normal in South Taranaki.
NEARLY A CENTURIAN
RAWER A. This Day. Obituary,—o. P. Raymond, aged 08, He arrived at Wellington in 1852 and later settled in Canterbury where he was farming for some years. Deceased enjoyed good health till a few weeks ago.
AN AUCKLAND COMPLAINT. AUCKLAND. Thi» Day. A complaint regarding the treatment of a lady passenger suffering from pneumonia who arrived from Samoa, hv the Talune on Thursday, has been made to the Mayor by J. W. Casholt of Do•vonport, who declares the delay in getting the Indy ashore and into the hospital, and her being .allowed to walk about tlio windswept deck of the vessel while suffering from pneumonia following influenza, was directly responsible for her death the following moring. The Mayor brought the matter under tho notice of Dr Frengley and he has written to the Port Health Officer, Dr Russell, asking for an explanation.
AT HASTINGS
| HASTINGS This Day. i Since the emergency hospitals wore opened thirteen days ago, 172, cases have been admitted, 62 discharged and thirty-three have died, leaving 77 in the hospital to-day. Fifty-four deaths were registered in Hastings during tho epidemic, some of tho leading citizens being earned off including 0. S. Clnpham (Borough Councillor) and Mrs A. Ellingham always a prime mover in philanthropic
work. Hastings also lost- two hospital workers, Nurses Leech and Edmond Grigg among the first to volunteer their ser-
