ALSACE-LORRAINE.
The “Reichsland’’ of Alsace-Lorraine (Elsass-Lotlirigen), which was annexed by France from the ohl Gorman Empire between 1648 and 1097, and restored (to Germany in 1871, embraces the ' fertile plain between the Rhine and the Vosges, and stretches beyond these mountains as far as Luxemberg. Wine, tobacco, hops, iron and coal are among its leading productions and the cotton industry is most flourishing.
