Five occurred at the Hospital, lmt there were several more in private homes and institutions. NYver boforo lias the local (loath rate been so high. A well-known undertaker stated last evening that in all ms years of experience, there had never iieeii an epidemic of any sort anything like so serious as the present one. MORE DEATHS AT NAPIER. NAPIER, Nov. 13. Several more deaths from influenza have occurred here. Doubts are expressed as to whether the disease has been rightly diagnosed. PRECAUTIONS TN THE SOUTH. DUNEDIN, Nov. 13. _ The Health Officer received 13 notifications of influenza this morning, 12 being pneumonic. The schools in Dunedin and suburbs Oamaru, Bnlduthn, Mosgiel, and Milton have been closed for a week. All places of entertainment m Otago and Southland, including halls, theatres. and billiard saloons, are closed tor a week, and race meetings are prohibited. , The Health Officer intends to appeal to the managers of the churches to cancel next Sunday’s services. AUCKLAND’S DEATH ROLL. AUCKLAND. Nov. 13. _ The influenza epidemic is not holding Auckland so strongly to-day. Ihe abatement of the malady is small but noticeable. The calls for assistance to-day have been many, but not so many as on Monday. Serious eases still occur, but they are attended with much less delay, and mild attacks are being dealt with before they become serious. The-death roll is still heavy, but not so heavy as it has been. All the theatres have been closed tor another week. The undertakers cannot cope with the burials, and the authorities do this where private arrangements are impossible. There are two special trains daily to Waikumete Cemetery, to ensure prompt burial.
