INFLUENZA.

EVERY CARE NEEDED

The influenza epidemic has increased its hold on the town and district, and numerous fresh cases have been reported. Owing to the crowded state of Westland Hospital, a temporary hospital is being arranged at Victoria School, 20 beds being prepared to-day for occupancy if needed. There are a number of residents reported to be laid up,. and the authorities desire to emphasize on one and all to take every possible care to prevent the epidemic spreading further. There are a number of directions as to precautions, etc.,

appearing in others parts of this paper, to which we direct special attention.

A PROTEST

Our attention has been pointedly drawn to the following: One of the most important matters in connection with checking the spread of the influenza epidemic is that patients recovering should not mix with other people. Unfortunately many persons do not appear to realise the danger they cause. Patients just out of bed have been walking about- the streets and entering premises, apparently not knowing, or not caring for the danger they are to others. Their action is quasi-criminal under the special circumstances, and a grave danger; it is urgent that active steps should be taken to put an immediate stop to such action.
