Mr Tom Pollard has been engaged at Wellington in producing “The Gondoliers,'' for the Amateur OperaticSociety, the performance of which has been highly successful, especially, on the side of the ladies, usually the weakest spot among amateurs. The production ended in a race between time and influenza. On Friday it made its appearance with great success. Yet some of the orchestra even then were laid up, and live more were attacked with the ailment. Then two of the principals were unable to appear at tbo matinee on Saturday; and tbe Company struggled through last night with the leading tenor unable to sing, number of the chorus absent, and several of the principals on the verge of breaking down. Never was a Company more thankful when the last performance was over; and that they kept going was largely due to the skilful veteran’s patience and experienced management.
