In consequence of the rapid spread of influenza epidemic,. the Public Health Department has closed all schools and also picture theatres and other places of entertainment. An inhalation chamber has been established 1500 passing through yesterday while, there was a steady stream thi morning. There were many eases of pneumonia following influenza reported yesterday and most of the hotels which were crowded for tlic Carnival week with visitors resemble hospitals. IN AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND November 11. The officers in charge of measures for combating the epidemic in town all report the position about the same as There were 380 applications for assistance received, which shows a falling off as tho result of organisation by a block committee. The Depu-ty-Mayor is of opinion that there is still need for more volunteers helpers. A VICTIM. CHRISTCHURCH November 11. Mr C.W. G reeiq ex-Seerctary of the Returned Soldiers Association, died suddenly to-day, following an attack of influenza. at dannevirke. DANNEVIRKE, Nov. 11. . Dannevirke district is in the grip of the prevailing epidemic. Of its four medical men, two are now suffering from the complaint. There was one death, the .victim being Norman White, second son of Kinross White, managing director of the North Britisl Freezing Works of Napier, while or a visit to Dannevirke. Whole families are down, and tin staffs of mercantile firms are sadly de pleted with few exceptions. The nia jority of eases are not execptionall; severe. SCHOOLS CLOSED. WELLINGTON November Tl.
