The hotels here were closed to-day at 4.30 by order of the Chief Health Officer, on the ground that crowds were congregating in them, and caused danger of infection. To-ifiorrow the hotels will be closed also, except between one and two o’clock. S.S. KAKAPO’S CASES. NELSON, Nov. Bth. The Dnion Company’s collier Kakaoo. which left Auckland on Sunday, and arrived off. Westport on Wednesday, but was unable to enter, reached Nelson this afternoon, with seven cf the crew suffering from influen.za. Mr. A. W. Duncan, the Kakapo’s second officer, died at lo’clock this morning from the disease. The chief officer, chief steward, threo firemen and two sailors have been admitted to the hospital. The vessel leaves for Wellington tonight. DIG DEATH ROLL. LONDON, Nov .7. Last week there were 7,417 deaths from influenza in ninety-six large towns of England and Wales. IN SOUTH AFRICA. CAPETOWN, Nov. 7. Out of two hundred thousand Natives employed on Witzwntersrand, sixtv-one thousand took influenza and 1200 died. INFLUENZA EPIDEMIC. WELLINGTON, This Day. Over 2000 soldiers in the Camps have influenza, 1,511 being at Featlierston. Thirteen nurses are down in Wellington Hospital. The Taka puna is fitting up as 3 i hospital to receive sick seamen at Clyde Quay wharf. Coastal shipping is practically at a standstill. There wort four deaths among seamen, one on the Moiiowni.
