GENERAL HAIG’S REPORTS
[Australian & n.z. cable association] LONDON, Nov. 7. General Haig at 1.15 p.m. reported progress on the battle front yesterday evening was continued. VVe have taken Dompire Monceau and St. . Vaast, and have readied or passed a line of Avesnes-Bavay road between Monceau St. Vaast ariiway. Southward of Bnvny wo repulsed a counted attack with heavy enemy loss,- advancing our line as a result. 810 BRITISH ADVANCE. (Received This Day at 8.45 a.m.) LONDON November 7. General Haig reports we continued to •advance on the whole front southward of Mons-Conde canal and southward of the Sambre river. VVe reached La Ca-pelle-Maubenge road on both sides of lAvesnes and gained the western out skirts thereof, astride of the river. We reached the vicinity of Hautemont nod captured Bavay. We progressed eastward. On the left we captured Blaugies and Hensies and reached Conde-Mons canal. Northward of Hansies the resistance stiffened considerably and machine-gunning was encountered. We took one hundred prisoners and a number of guns. Armoured ears gave valuable service in co-operation with the cavalry and infantry, harrassing the retreating enemy.
