The roof of White’s workshop, at the corner of Queen Street and Leonard Street collapsed. due to the thick parapet being blown on to the roof. All the horse stalls at the show ground, 64 in number were blown to pieces, and the produce shed shifted. The Committee, meets this afternoon, as the show is next Thursday. Reports from tho country indicate that stacks were scattered, roofs taken off. trees down, and cattle killed in many places. CHARGE OF MURDER. DARGAVILLE, November 6. The adjourned case of Edward Campbell. a half caste Dlaori, charged with the murder of his wife at Oro, on or I about July 14th was reopened yester- | ? day, before Dir Hunt, S.DI., Sergt Griffiths prosecuted, and the prisoner was defended by Dr. D. H. Ross. Doctor Beattie. Superintendent of Avondale -Mental Hospital, gave evidence that accused, who had been admitted to the hospital, told him on two ooasions that he had put his wife in the river and drowned her. He arrived at tho conclusion that the accused was not insane. Constable Coag deposed that he had arrested accused as a lunatic, and that on two ocasions accused had declared that he had drowned his wife. At the time of his arrest the condition of. the accused warranted him being regarderl as a-lunatic'. Considerable other evidence was ton- ' dod showing that the accused had been in the company of some witnesses at a time the murder was alleged to have happened. The case was not concluded. REINFORCEDIENTS. WELLINGTON. Nov. 6. Sir James Allen stated to-day that the Forty-fourth and Fifty-fifth Reinforcements, which are now due to leave Now Zealand will be bold back.
