INFLUENZA EPIDEMIC.
AUCKLAND VISITATION. ' Australian* * n.z. cabi.e association] AUCKLAND, November 1. The influenza epidemic shows no abatement. There have been three more deaths to-day. The fire brigade, police, telephone exchange, and business staffs generally arp, greatly depleted. A Citizens Committee has asked the Citv Council for the use of “Kilbryde” in Parnell Park, as a temporary hospital • , The Committee have also appealed Tolunt-arv workers, particularly oxnurses for service in the city, which has been divided into blocks. Free medicine is to be supplied where necessary. , It- has also been, decided to ask the Minister of Public Health to make the disease subject- to quarantine, m view oi the fact that- ships are possibly on the way here from countries where the disease is of a severe type. The Education Board has boon asked to close the -schools and fumigate the buildings. . . , , The Defence Minister is to be asked to relieve doctors from Medical Boards to aid in combating the epidemic.
