A “V.C” PIGEON.
It is of interest to note that there is in the I?oval United Service Institution, Whitehall. London, a stuffed pigeon known as the “V.C.” pigeon. It appears that it was released somewhere in the North Sea about 3 p.m., one day and arrived at its homing station about 11 p.m., next day, mortally wounded, it had evidently been shot by the enemy, perhaps from an aeroplane and the bullet had struck the message case and embedded in its breast Part of the message was protruding from the wound. In spite of its fatal wound tile faithful bird struggled on and on, seeming to realise the importance of its errand and to be thoroughly imbued with the British pluck. This spirit lias been the inspiration of many brave deeds by humans.
