McLEAN’S PICTURES. “THE ETERNAL CITY.”—FRIDAY. The star attraction for Friday night at the Opera House is Hall Caine’s dramatic 'masterpiece '“iThe Eternal City,” which is a drama of modern Rome, combining the presentation of the spectacular with the dramatic, with a skill that has never been surpassed. To use the words of Hall Caine himself, who, .in a letter received by the producer, J. D. Walker, says: “ Never before, to my knowledge ; lias modern Rome been so faithfully, so vividly and so dramatically presented. T can hardly doubt that this aspect of “.The Eternal City” will appeal profoundly to all those whose eyes are turned towards Italy in the great struggle of the present contest.” Pauline Frederick, with her great wistful eyes and full, warm month, has won for herself a place foremost in the ranks of the dramatic stars of to-day. In “ The Eternal City,’’ in the role of the beautiful Donna Roma, she is enthralling, conveying as sbe does by facial expression, all that F Caine ever meant to convey in his pourtral of the character. Afore than that, she makes the character live and breathe in a manner that called fort’ the warmest, praise and appreciation of the author himself. Further chapters of the entrancing serial, “The Great Secret ” will also be included in tin programme.
