The hearing of the charges against seven men in connexion with the recent burglaries was continued at the Magistrate's Court to-day. On summary charges, Patrick Gunn was sentenced to one year’s imprisonment for being in possession of flrearms, and three months on each of three of theft, and one of escaping custody, the sentences being cumulative. Thomas Gunn was sentenced to eleven months’ imprisonment, and Alexander Gunn to twelve months,’ for being in possession of firearms. Davern and McLellaml wore each sentenced to three months for theft.

TRAMWAY AGREEMENT. WELLINGTON, This Day An agreement has hecn reached by the conference between the City Council representatives and tramway men under the presidency of Mr Newton Conciliation commissioner. The agreement which has to he ratified by the council and union, is understood to provide for a flat minimum of 1/4 per flour for all tramway employees which is what the men have been demanding, i makimr a minimum wage of fit/- for a forty-eight hour week. AUCKLAND, October (>• The Northern Company's auxiliary schooner Greyhound (Captain McKinnon') on route from Auckland to Hokianga, caught lire off Kuwait Island on Saturday evening. She was towed back to port with the after-part of tho vessel ami the engineroom ill flames. The crew made efforts to extinguish the lire with a hand-pump and buckets, but without avail.

The Glcnclg. which was bound to Auckland, had passed the Greyhound a nuarter of an hour before, and saw tbe accident. She went back alongside the burning vessel, and towed her to Auckland. On the way tho Glenelg’s crow kept a stream of water from their steam pump playing on the flames. They also took on board their vessel 70 ease,s of benzine, which was stowed near the tire The vessel reached the Hobson wharf at 11.15 p.m. where the C.'itv Fire Brigade was waiting. It took two hours before the flames were subdued. The hull is chant'd on the inside aft and the cargo damaged by water.
