assault ON A patient
WELLINGTON. October 2
Aii ex-attendant at the Porirua tal Asylum, name! Hugh Anderou, was to-day sentenced to a month s gaol foi assaulting a patient of the institution James Simpson, who had since died. The medical superintendent sani that ho found no bruises on the patient's face. The assault had not accelerated death. Accused had been dismissed just prior to the assault. Anderson in his evidence, said that ho might even have struck him to frighten him hack to his bed, hut the blow was not more than a mere flip. He had gone to the sick ward to give a new attendant advice and say farewell to the patients. The Magistrate said that il the assault had been committed on a healthy person a nominal penalty would have been inflicted. A COMPLAINT. WELLINGTON. Oct. 3.
