GENERAL HAIG’S REPORTS

BRITISH CAPTURES. LONDON, October 27. Sir Douglas Haig states: Since 27th September on the St. Quentin-Cambrai batflefront, we have engaged and defeated, with heavy losses, 36 German divisions.

The British captured, during September 66,300 of whom 1500 were officers. We also captured 700 guns of all calibres, and some thousands of machine guns. The British, captured in the months of August and September a total of 123,618, of whom 2738 were officers. A total of about 1400 guns were msu taken.

GAINS ABOVE ST. QUENTIN. LONDON, October 1. Reporting this evening, Sir Douglas Haig states. Operation* to-day have continued satisfactorily on the St Quon-tin-Camhrai battlefront. « We have considerably advanced eastward to high ground east of Levergies, /on the extreme right, northeast of Sf. Quentin.

Further north, we gained a footing ;n doneourt. We stormed the defences and village of.Estrees, clearing the enemy from high ground south of LeCatelet.

Severe fighting ha* taken place in, the centre of our line in the village,o Crevecoeur, and Ramilly, and on the rising ground northwards and eastward On our left, between Cambrai and the Sensec river, we have also been severely engaged throughout the morning, attacking fresh hostile forces. Notwithstanding this, we have progressed eastward of Tilloy (which is a northern suburb of Cambrai) and in the neighbourhood of Bellecourt.

BRITISH SUCCESSES. WELLINGTON, This Day The Hiizli Commission reports from London at 12.10 p.m. on Oct. 2nd: Sir Douglas Haig reports we have captured St. Quentin and Presselles, and reached the Fonsomme —Beausevoir line. The Australians cleared Joneourt and captured the southwards of Le Catelet and Gouy. Tho New Zealanders, English and Scottish at dusk, southward of Cambrai, drove the enemy from Excrevecourt and Rumilly.
