Before midday they took'Gonnelieu and reached Scheldt Canal along the front from Wcndhurle northwards. The New Zealanders cleared the west hank of the canal as far north as Chcvewcur. The English af or hard hghtinf at Thumilly and northwards, cst-aj-lished themselves along Runully-Cam-hrai road. North of Cambrai the enemy again resisted strongly with considerable forces counter-attacking frequently and violently, but despite Ins efforts the Canadians made further taki„<r prisoners and inflicting heavy losses. Successful minor operations by the English this morning advanced the line to the west bank of Hayes river, between Neuvre Chapelle and Picintia. . V e also made progress southward of hleurbaix.
