We destroyed eight balloons and shot down twenty-three aeroplanes. We drove down twenty uncontrollable. Nineteen of ours are missing. AIR OPERATIONS. LONDON, September 29. Sir Douglas Haig reports: Our aeroplanes dropped twenty tons of bombs on enemy dumps, railheads and billets. ignited hangars and destroyed ; machine on the ground. We downed seven others attempting to repel attacks and four others elsewhere. Five British machines are missing. The air ministry reports: In conjunction with the Franco-American operations yesterday, we attacked the railways at Metz-Sablon s . and Andunleromnn with good results. In bitter air fighting we downed three enemy machines, while six British machines are missing. Night fliers bombed a railway at Metz-Sablon, Mesicres, Thionvilfe, hud the Trcscaty aerodrome.
