At 1.30 p.m. General Haig reported the Anglo-Americans attacked at 5.50 this morning north-westward of St. Quentin. The battle is proceeding fiercely \m the whole front from St. Quentin tolScarpe.

There was heavy lighting yesterday about Gonnellieu and Welsh Ridge We progressed on the high ground southwestward of Gonnellieu but were pressed back slightly at Welsh ridge. .Wo. re-attacked this morning and progressed at Marcoing. We enlarged our bridgehead position eastward of the canal Aillessult and drove off a hostile counter-attack. More northwards English naval units established themselves eastward of Essault river, opposite Cantaing. Southwards of Bapaume-Cambrai road the Canadians took a position of tlie defence system, known as Mar-coing-Masnieres line, as far north as Saillv. English completed the capture of Aubencheul-au-Dic and Palluel, and are fighting in Arleux.. We crossed Trinquis river in the neighbourhood of Sailly-en-Ostrevent.

BRITISH OPERATIONS. LONDON, Sep. 30. Sir Douglas Haig reports: This morning there was successful fighting, extending on a front of 30 miles, from St. Quentin to the Sensee river. The New Zealanders cleared the Welsh ridge, breaking a' hostile countciMattack, and, advancing, captured La Vaqucrie and a spur between Egnavis and Masnieres. Naval divisions reached the southern outskirts and the Canadians penetrated the north-west outskirts of Cambrai. We have captured in three days 22,000 prisoners and 300 guns.

BRITISH CAPTURES. WELLINGTON, This Day. The High Commissioner reports from London on Sep. 30th at- 4 p.m.: Sir Douglas Haig reports northwards of St. Quentin, one division captured 4,000 prisoners and 40 guns. We have reached the northern outskirts of Cambrai,
