BRITISH OPERATIONS. LONDON, September 25

Sir Douglas Haig reports; There was sharp local- fighting this morning in the neighbourhood of Selency, ivhich we captured with several prisoners. Our rifle fire and machine gun file broke up, with loss, three enemy counter attacks to tlie north-west of Favet. We beat off the enemy in an attempted surprise attack to the east ward of Epehy. Many German dead are left in front of our positions.

AVe repulsed raiders during the t ight time south-east of Inehy.

A strong enemy party entered one of our posts in the neighbourhood of Moeuvres but was ejected by- counterattack.

General Haig reports; We successfully continued local operations in the afternoon and night north-eastward nf St. Quentin. 'The English progressed and captured certain strongly defended localities in the neighbourhood of Seieney and Gricourt, and a number of prisoners. Besides counter-attacks launched by the enemy north-west of Fayet, In* also twice unsuccessfully attacked us north-west of Gricourt. The English were successful in a minor operation north-westward of La Bat.* «■ and advanced our line. We repulsed counter-attack in this locality at n'ght time. We improved our position -lightly north-westward of Armenticres.
