The enemy gained a footing on high ridges westward of Jouy. A GERMAN REPORT. LONDON, Sep. 23. A wireless German official report stntes:—The English launched a great attack yesterday morning, betwet.. Gouzcaucourt Wood and Hargicourt. Anticipating the attack, we bad removed our defence eastward of Epeliy to an old English position between Villers-Guislain and Bellicourt. The attack broke down. v A second attempt also failed. Although the English temporarily penetrated the southwestern portion of Villers-Guislain and Quennemont Farm, they were thrown' back by a counter-attack-
