GENERAL HAIG’S REPORTS
[PER press association.— copyright. ENEMY ATTACKS. LONDON, Sep. 23. Sir Douglas Haig reports that fresh attacks on British posts northward of Moeuvrcs were repulsed. The enemy also heavily bombarded positions in the neighbourhood' of Gauche and succeeded in pressing back slightly one advanced post, northward of the wood. All the following night the enemy made repeated and determined attempts, wjiftjh fl'ammeaiwerfer and bombs, to drive in British positions in this locality. All those attacks were repulsed after hard fighting. At night the line was advanced slightly northwest of Bellenglise. Yesterday morning fighting recommenced in the sector east of Epeliy. The British improved their positions slightly, west of Messines, capturing a German strong point. Progress wan made south-east of Ypres. IN FLANDERS. LONDON, Sep. 22. Sir Douglas Haig reports: A hostile attack north-west of La Bassoc, reported in the morning, was not pressed, and our position i s unchanged. In local encounters we slightly improved our positions south of Villers-Guislain, and in the neighbourhood of Zillebeke.
