SENSATIONAL ARRESTS.

ALLEGED BURGLARY

AUCKLAND, This Day. The arrest of two men, armed, believed to lie connected with numerous burglaries in the city and suburbs during the last four weeks, was effected at a house in Wellesley street early yesterday morning by Detectives Cummings and Plain Clothes Constable McHugh. The men both young have been resident in Auckland for sometime. One of them, James Davcrn, was a. regular boarder at the house. The other John McLelland, had only slept there on Saturday night. The officers having made sure of their - ground entered the bedroom where the men were sleeping and overpowered and handcuffed them beforethey had a chance to ofTer resistance. A search revealed a loaded revolver under Daven’s pillow and several plugs of gelignite under his bed. There was n: loaded revolver lying on the pillow alongside McLelland’s head. A further quantity of gelignite was found under MeLellaiul's mattress. Several rounds of ammunition for each of the I'evolvers were also discovered.

The men were tnken to the polico station on a formal charge. Another young man Charles McCormack, believed to he implicated in breaking and entering in Queen Street was arrested about mid-night near his home at Grey Lynn. The police were making enquiry at the man’s home when they heard him approaching, and were able to secure him without much trouble.
