j THE FIGHT 'AT METEREN. ; (From N.Z. Official War Correspondent) N.Z. HEADQUARTERS, August 21. It will be remembered that in tho fighting about Meteren some of oiu non-commissionod officers and meii from on Entrenched Battalion, who went bravely into tho fight, were cut off, and it was supposed at tho time that many prisoners were made. This was afterwards confirmed. I have now seen a letter from Hanson, one of tho prisoners, written to the officer commanding tho. Entrenching Group, on April 20th., and received
: hero on August Gth. Hansen refers to their misfortune in being taken prisoners of war, and, though he cannot say in the letter how it all happened, [ he assures his late commanding officer j that they stuck it out as long as pos- ' sible. He forwards a roll of the men ( made prisoner, as he is anxious that [ letters and parcels should be forwarded them—especially parcels. At the time of writing he did not know what their address would be .
