SUBMARINE WARFARE

fPF.iI I'IIKSS ASSOCIATION-. —COPYItIGITT.] HR COOK’S INVESTIGATIONS OF BRITAIN’S GREAT WORK. (Received This Day at 12.30. a.in.) LONDON, Aug. 25. .Mr. Cook interviewed, said he had special opportunities to investigate anti-submarine measures. He saw them in actual operation. The im-

pression left after seeing the 1' loot, was one of supreme power, thorough oflieiency and wonderful organisation, under able, capable leadership, on which the people can rely absolutely. The same may lie said of the work oi tin* shipyards, and munition factories. Tiie frantic energy displayed everywhere made the complete defeat of the enemy not far distant. 11 the people would stop striking each otner and strike. the enemy instead, the end would never be in doubt. There had been a wonderful revival of the national spirit and if the burdens piled up wore for the future there would also be handed to the future a rejuvenated, highly developed capacity to meet the J,>urdou. ff the skill and ingenuity now displayed in the art oi warfare, were continued in the economic life of the nation, it would lie quite equal to future tasks. Mr. Cook was filled with admiration for women’s work in munitions and other industrial activities.
