PRESTON YARDS SALE. At Preston Rond, Greymouth, yesterday, the entry of stock consisted of 19 fat cattle aid 261 fat slicep. Keen disappointment was expressed by the trade at the smallness of the cattle entry, 35 being advertised and only nineteen cattle yarded. In consequence there was quite insufficient for the trade demand, and considerable grumbling by the local and country butchers who were unable to obtain necessary supplies. So much so that some of the butchers, who were unable to obtain beef whatever, talked openly without appealing to the Board of Trade to take a hand to see that the trade is supplied with beef commensurate with the demand. Mark Sprot and Co sold as follows:—On behalf of Mr LI. Diedrichs. Kokatahi, 9 extra heavy bullocks, from £2l, to £2O/2/0 Extra prime quality beef, some of the finest cattle yarded at the Central Yards this year. 10 fat heifers from £l4/7/6, to £lO/10/-.

On behalf of Messrs M. Ryan, and Son., Rotomanu, 18 fat sheep at 505., 11 fat sheep at 485., 36 fat slieep at 465. 3d. On behalf of Mr G. Jacobs, Rotoinaim, 66 forward hoggets nt 30/Two trucks of fat sheep from South Westland, off turnips, showed severe signs of travelling and were passed unsold.
