SOCIAL AT GOLDSBOROUGH.

(From a- Correspondent). On last Thursday evening in Hnnrahau’s Hall, Coldsborough, a social was hold to farewell Private ,T. W. Pooler, who was at home on final leave. The largo crowd present bore ample testimony to the popularity of the young soldier, visitors coming from all parts of the district.

During the evening. Air. Higgs, in a few well-chosen words, wished Private Pooley Clod speed, and a saf§ return to New Zealand, and presented him on behalf of the residents of Goldsborougli, with a handsome wallet and money bolt. On rising to respond the guest of the evening was greeted with applause, lie thanked his Goldsborougli friends for tlieir gift, and hoped they would all meet again in the near future to celebrate the successful termination of the” war, and the entry of the New Zealanders into Berlin. A dainty supper, supplied by thy ladies, was then handed round, the good things being done full justice to. During the evening songs were rendered by Miss Alaric Jones, Messrs W. Blaekmun and J. Turner Junv. Dancing was indulged in until the early hours of the pioniing, the music being supplied by Airs Stewart, Misses Brown and Jones, and Messrs Atkinson (aceordoon) and Turley ■(violin). The gathering terminated with the singing of Auld Land Syne, one and all voting it one of the most enjoyable ever spent in Goldsborougli.
