SIR JAMES ALLEN.

A civic reception was. accorded the Acting-Premier at the Town Hall, Greymouth, last evening. Mayor Lynch presided and the function passed off very successfully.

In the course of his reply to an address of welcome Sir Janies \ABen stated that lie had communicated with the member for Grey to the effect that ho was coming down to Captain Soddon’s constituency. He was 'certain they were all proud of Captain Seddon. He also mentioned the other Parliamentarians who had gone to the front. Captain Downie Stewart aud Captain Coates," who had received the Military Cross, Captain Hine who had boon shot through the lungs, arid went back again. While these men have been at the front, continued Sir Janies, it has been suggested that their constituencies have been neglected. Such was not the ease. He had been to Capt. Coates’ electorate and uow he had com© to Captain Seddon’s electorate and been treated with exceptional kindness. W'hon these men come back to their constituencies, I know what their reception will he* like, he said. I also know what sort of a reception they will get in Parliament. I rejoice to know that when the call came our Parliamentarians did their duty. Finally Sir Jaim's acknowledged the excellent reception tendered him on tbe Const—a recollection which would always be' included amongst his happiest memories. (Cheers.) His Worship, in thanking Sir .lames Allen for liis address called upon Lieut. Frickleton, V.C. to move the following motion :
