A French communique states: At five in th© morning we, in conjunction with the British troops, attacked southeast of Ainiens. The attack is developing in favourable conditions. AMERICANS ADVANCING. (Received This Day at 9.50. a.m.) NEW YOK, Aug. 8. Additional Amorican forces crossed the Veslo river, west of Fismes. The Americans are meeting with counter-attacks, and the Germans arc attempting by means of barrages to prevent further crossings. Bayonet fighting occurred at several places. The Americans are endeavouring to drive the enemy from the high ground near Bozoclios.
